A private family service is planned for longtime Carson Valley resident Walter C. Blattel, 98, who died Jan. 27, 2010 in Reno. Born Feb. 19, 1911 in Ancell, Mo., to Andrew Joseph Blattel and Bertha Anna Felden, he enjoyed fishing, woodwork, bird watching, puzzles and volunteering with the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center.
Mr. Blattel was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ivis Irene Kirby, both of his parents, sister Corine Miller, son-in-law Carl G. Abney.
He is survived by daughter Delores Abney of Gardnerville; granddaughter April (Terry) Hughes of Gardnerville; grandson Cort (Teri) Abney of California; and great grandchildren Patrick, Drew, Brit, Colton and Carly, friend Les Bush, nephew Richard Birkman and many longtime family and friends.
Private family services are to be held.
Donations may be made to the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center 3050 Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe, or a charity of your choice. Walton's Funerals and Cremations in Gardnerville is in charge of arrangements.
