The R-C Morning Report

The Nevada Motocross Park tops the county commissioners' agenda today. Also, commissioners will discuss two ballot items, one to increase the room tax 3 cents from a dime to 13 cents and the new airport ordinance are both on the agenda. If voters approve the room tax increase, the county would seek authorization from the Legislature to impose it. There's also a proposal to raise $3.35 million in water bonds for the county's share of the Minden-Carson waterline. Commissioners meet 1 p.m. in the Douglas County Historic Courthouse.

There was no percentage in being fashionably late to the kick off for Genoa's Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival on Wednesday. At 6:05 p.m. 85 people had signed in and they kept coming. Organizers said they were expecting upwards 200 people to be there by the end of the night. In honor of the event, which is April 29 to May 2, I've composed a cowboy haiku.

Rain is supposed to roll in tonight, and stick around through most of the weekend. Today is forecast to be cloudy with a slight chance of rain after 4 p.m. The chance goes way up after 10 p.m., when the wind will pick up too. The chance of rain through Friday is 80 percent. We may see some snow early Saturday morning. The storm is expected to bring another .4 inches of moisture to Minden. If it snows, we could see an inch over the course of eight hours.
