The R-C Morning Report

Minden residents were reassured on Wednesday that the town's water sales will help its future not hurt it. Resident Bob Pohlman questioned a proposal to build a pipeline to provide water to Indian Hills and Carson City. But town board members said their part of the deal would be to supply water and that they expected the lion's share of the construction to be carried by those who benefit.

We'll be following up on the fight at Jobs Peak Drive from last night. It sounds like at least one person was taken into custody as a result. There was also a pursuit of a suspect across the state line into the Lake casinos on Wednesday afternoon. We're still gathering information on that.

County commissioners will spend a third day together after two days of budget talks. They start at noon with a closed session to discuss labor negotiations with the associations. No question this is about balancing the budget. They'll come back into open session sometime around 1 p.m. The big item on the agenda is a special use permit to expand Walley's Hot Springs in Genoa. Commissioners will also talk about legislation to establish a health district in the county. They meet in their chambers in the Douglas County Administrative Building, 1616 Eighth St.

It's warm out there this morning as a new cold front gathers strength. Expect strong, gusty winds this afternoon as the cold front rolls into the Sierra. Gusts could hit 45 mph in the Valley with higher gusts in wind-prone areas. The chance for rain will increase along the front tonight and into Friday morning. Temperatures will drop 20 degrees, with snow levels following to the Valley floor. There's a possibility of 1-2 inches of snow in parts of Western Nevada. Expect the passes to be a mess on Friday morning.
