Listen to neighbors

EDITOR:

There have been a lot of opinions expressed about renewing the motocross track. I am a Ruhenstroth resident, who lives by the fairgrounds less than a mile from the motocross track. When we built our home, we knew what we were getting into living by the fairgrounds. The noise from the fairgrounds has been very minimal.

We can't hear it inside our home, when outside you can, but it isn't that bad. And yes, there is the shooting range with the "pops" here and there. Not that big of a deal. But the motocross let me just say, I can't even talk to someone in my front yard, it can be that loud, let alone how loud it is inside our house.

We ride quads ourselves. So do our neighbors, I have never had a problem with that. That is part of living out here. But the motocross goes way beyond any normal level of noise. I ask you, would it be OK for me to bring a bunch of friends next to your home, have all of them pull out their dirt bikes and quads, rev them up all day then do this for 12 weekends a year, 38 times? I can guarantee you your answer would be no. What happened to the good neighbor policy? We were here before the motocross and yet we have no say in having to listen to the horribly loud noise the track makes all day long when they have an event. All of you that are for the track, you don't live as close to where they are wanting to put it, so it is fine with you. What if they put it next door to where you live or work? Would you be OK with that? I know your answer would be no.

No one on our street has had anyone come out and see how loud it is during an event. I find it funny so many of you expressing how it doesn't make much noise, it's not that big of a deal, no more than this or that, when you don't experience it all the time. The tractor pull is noisy but we all know it is only once a year, not 12 weekends a year. I wonder why the owners of the track don't live right by it? Maybe because they don't want to have to listen to it.

We are not against having a motocross park in Carson Valley, just not near houses where it is so loud, and they residents are forced to just put up with it. The residents near the track should be the ones having a say in it.
