Sweet Images opens candy shop through Friday

"We have great taste in pictures" is an appropriate slogan for Sweet Images Ltd., a Minden based Internet and wholesale business.

Their primary product line is the reproduction of photography, logos and graphics onto confections - from cookies and chocolates to Rice Krispies, among other items.

They work with several Internet distributors and photo centers that provide their goodies to customers as a photo-gift option. All their products are fresh, said a company spokesperson, and they take pride in their goodies tasting as good as they look.

This holiday season, Sweet Images has turned their headquarters into a Christmas candy shop with classics such as caramel apples, fudge, peppermint bark and turtles.

Sweet Images is located at 2561 Business Parkway, Suite G, off Johnson Lane in Minden. They will be open through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome.

Gardnerville's Killer Salsa is representing the state of Nevada on the Delish website as one of the "Food gifts from 50 states." This year, the emphasis is on American-made products. MSN sponsors the Delish site as well as the Food Network and Travel Channel.

The gift boxes of five-six jars includes shipping to all 50 states as well as the military.

Company founder Fran Pritchard was a food service manager in the Bay Area. She said everyone used to tell her she made killer salsa and should go into business.

When she moved to Gardnerville 18 years ago and could not find a job, she decided to give the salsa business a try. The company now sells to every major grocery store in the Reno-Tahoe area.

"The response to this promotion has been a nearly overwhelming surprise, and the first day we got 80 orders for gift boxes," Pritchard reported. "The staff is working overtime to keep up with the demand."

She said the most popular flavor so far has been original, but smoked chipotle is a close second.

"All of the orders are shipped by the post office as priority mail with a 2-3 day delivery time," she said. "We are so pleased to be featured on a national website, and it is great publicity for a small business."
