Valley under small stream flood watch

Carson Valley is under an urban and small stream flood advisory as more rain is expected 8-11 a.m. today.

Valley streams and ditches are running higher than usual, but so far the county's hydrologic threat board is showing green lights. About .08 inches of rain an hour are showing in Minden and in the Pine Nuts, with .12 inches at Lebo Springs in the northeastern part of the county.

According to the National Weather Service, snow levels were down at 5,500 feet earlier this morning reducing the amount of runoff from rain on snow.

Forecasters are warning residents to expect up to an inch of rain on the Valley floors this morning and 2 inches in the foothills during the day. The heaviest rain is expected between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Additional heavy rain and increased snowmelt later today could cause rapid rises on small streams flowing out of the foothills. Motorists should expect ponding of water in low lying areas along roads and highways.

A wind advisory goes into effect at 10 a.m. today. Expect 20-30 mph winds gusting to 50-60 mph.
