A private service and burial will be in North Dakota for Carson Valley resident John Gierke Jr., 75, who died Nov. 30, 2010, in Gardnerville.
Born Nov. 11, 1935, to John and Gertrude (Shroeder) Gierke Sr., he was raised on the family farm in Bismark, N.D.
He married Kathleen Grondahl in 1977 and moved to Nevada in 1982. He worked security at Harrah's until his retirement in 2000.
Mr. Gierke enjoyed building things, working on vehicles and spending time with his family and pets, Brodie and Snoopy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons Greg Gierke and Steven Knittle and grandson Steven Wood.
He is survived by wife Kathleen; children John "Butch" (Shari Lachenmier) Gierke III, Mark (Denise) Gierke, Terri (Stewart) Burns, Michelle (Randy) Jones, Gary (Debbie) Wood, Mark Wood, John Trubina, Holli (Michael) Moe; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home.
