Douglas County 4-H Poultry Project members competed at the Reno Poultry Show on Nov. 20. We did really great out of the 450 birds. There was a really bad snowstorm all that weekend, so it was lucky all of us made it there.

The new members had a good time and did well too. Meleeah McKown got a participation gift basket for her Cloverbud Showmanship and won 15 blue ribbons, one second-place ribbon, two reserve best of variety and two best of breed ribbons for her bantams along with a reserve best of breed.

We had three first timers. One of them is Alli Rose, a 9-year old along with her sister Laura who helped her little sister prepare for the show. Alli won fourth place in showmanship. Plus she won five blue ribbons and one purple rosette.

Ryan and Sophie Bell also attended the show and it was their first time showing. Ryan won a first-place ribbon for his bantam and Sophie won two second-place ribbons. I won 14 blue ribbons, one best of breed, reserve champion Asiatic, best SCCL best in show and best bantam.

Overall the show was a huge success for all of us. We all had a great time and thank our parents for taking us to compete.

The 4-H youth development program is an organization of the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension. Information, 782-9960.
