Michael Robert McCarthy

A memorial Mass will be 9 a.m. Friday at St. John's Baptist Catholic Church in Smith for Master Sgt. Michael Robert McCarthy, 62, who died Nov. 25, 2010, at his home in Smith.

Born July 14, 1948, in Lynwood, Calif., to Robert and Dolores McCarthy, he served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam.

Master Sgt. McCarthy worked as a revenue assurance investigator for Pacific Gas & Electric in San Jose, Calif., and served with the U.S. Army Reserves for more than 20 years as an instructor and career counselor for military personnel. He married Micheale Campoy-McCarthy in September 1989 in San Jose. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.

He moved to Smith five years ago from Morgan Hill, Calif.

Master Sgt. McCarthy was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis McCarthy.

He is survived by wife Micheale of Smith; father and stepmother Mary of Gardnerville; sons Quinton D., Austin M. and Andrew McCarthy; daughters Dr. Christina E. McCarthy, Nichole C. McCarthy, Diamond L. McCarthy and Brandy Atkinson-Padilla; brothers John and Tim; sisters Mary Jo McCarthy and Annette Johnson; stepsisters Lorna Roberts and Cindy Diaz; and granddaughter, Jessica Padilla.

Inurnment with military honors will follow at the Northern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.

Walton's Funerals and Cremations Gardnerville is in charge of final arrangements.
