Broadband project funding approved

The necessary grants and other funding totaling $81.1 million have been approved to create a 583-mile long broadband infrastructure from Barstow, Calif., to Carson City. This will directly connect hospitals, schools, military bases, local governments, and eventually Internet providers.

It is too early to expect it to happen really soon, but it will help all of us in the long run, as well as providing new economic opportunities to the region.

Regional Planning Advisory Committee

The Antelope Valley RPAC will hold its monthly meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2 at the Walker Community Center. As always, they want the public to attend and give their input toward the future of our valley.

Coleville High School

The Wolves football team played their first league game on Saturday and trounced Pyramid 63-26. Congratulations to Coach Sandy and the team. It is a lot of fun to see these kids play, and especially to see them be rewarded for their efforts with a win. Try to get out to their next home game, 1 p.m. Sept. 11, at the Coleville High School field.

Best wishes

To my friends Clint Hershey and Frances Rich, both of whom had surgery last week, as well as anyone I haven't heard about - we care about you and hope for the very best during your recovery time.

Enjoy the holiday

Happy Labor Day weekend to all of you. If you are traveling, be careful; and if you're staying home to barbecue, have fun. You can also go out to the river and try your hand at fishing. It should be pretty good, with the recent fish plants. It's our last holiday for a while, so enjoy it, whatever you do.
