South Lake Tahoe continues as king of high gas prices

The highest gas prices in the lower 48 states, is next door to Douglas County in South Lake Tahoe where the average price for gasoline is $3.41.

Gas prices in downtown Gardnerville-Minden averaged $3.03 on Tuesday as prices continued to inch upward this week, according to information released by the Automobile Association of America.

Prices ranged from $3.19 to $2.88 in town.

The average price in Carson City is $3.02, an increase of 6 cents according to the auto club's monthly report. That average is the lowest reported for Northern Nevada, with Reno and Sparks averaging $3.16 and Elko at $3.21.

The statewide average is $2.97, while the national average is $2.78.

Nevada has the fourth highest gas prices in the continental United States.
