A flash flood watch has been issued for this afternoon by the National Weather Service for the east slope of the Sierra Nevada as scattered thunderstorms with little movement are expected to produce more than an inch of rain per hour.
The watch takes effect at 1 p.m. and extends into tonight.
According to the weather service, the greatest danger for flooding is near small streams and dry washes. Sudden rainfall could cause roads to wash out and create rock slides.
Today's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of heavy rain.
Winds near thunderstorms will be higher than surrounding areas.
Saturday's storm dropped 1.39 inches of rain in Markleeville during two hours. A wind gust of 54 mph was recorded five miles east of Gardnerville at 6:53 p.m. on Saturday.
