The Town of Genoa, Nevada, is seeking artisans and crafters with handmade art and crafts to display and sell at the 90th Annual Candy Dance Arts and Crafts Faire on Sept. 25 and 26.
Event organizers are especially interested in providing a wide variety of quality, hand-crafted items for faire-goers to appreciate and enjoy at this year's event. Applications are available from the Genoa Town Office, (775) 782-8696, or from the Town Web site www.genoanevada.org. The application deadline is until the faire is full.
Downtown Genoa is the location for the Candy Dance Arts and Crafts Faire. The Faire will feature over 325 crafters and vendors, plus Genoa's famous homemade candy. The hours are 9am to 5pm each day. Admission is free; parking in designated lots is available for a fee. The annual Candy Dance dinner and dance will be on Saturday evening, September 25, in the Genoa Town Park. The dinner will be catered by the Genoa Country Store/Benedetti Catering and includes tri tip, chicken, rosemary potatoes, and corn on the cod. Dinner and Dance tickets are $30 and Dance tickets are $15. This year's entertainment will be Wylie and the Wild West and David John and the Comstock Cowboys. The first Candy Dance was organized in 1919 by Genoa resident Lillian Virgin Finnegan to raise money to purchase street lights for Genoa. Finnegan and the women of Genoa made homemade candy to serve at the dance. In the following years, the candy making and Candy Dance continued each year as a way to raise funds to pay Genoa's electric bill for the street lights. The Arts and Crafts Faire was added in the 1970s. Currently, the funds raised by the Town of Genoa during the Candy Dance weekend provide a substantial portion of Genoa's annual budget.
