Remember to register to vote for June 8 election

Election Day will be June 8. Are you registered to vote in this very important election? There are a lot of important issues to be dealt with by our future supervisor, many of which affect Antelope Valley.

The Coleville post office has voter registration forms available, so don't miss out on having an input into our area's future business and improvement.

Last Saturday evening, Tim Fesko, a candidate for supervisor who is an Antelope Valley resident and businessman, held a get-acquainted evening for local voters. It had a lot of good questions from the residents, as well as his views on them. On May 5 at the Walker Community Center, there will be a Meet the Candidates night for us to hear all four candidates for supervisor tell us their plans and views.

Mountain Gate Park workday

This Saturday, April 17, the community will be doing further work on the Mountain Gate area south of Walker. They are cleaning up the area and helping prepare it for the county to finish their plans for a day-use park. If you can, they would love to have your help between 9 a.m. and noon. All you need to bring is your willingness to help, a shovel, rake or pruning shears, as well as work gloves. We'll hope to see you there.

Supervisors' evening meeting

The Mono County Board of Supervisors hold a meeting Tuesday, April 20, 6 p.m. at the Walker Community Center. Please go and find out what they are talking about and dealing with that involves our valley.

Eastern Sierra School Board meeting

The Eastern Sierra Unified School District Board will meet at Coleville High School on Wednesday, April 21, 6 p.m. There has been a lot of rumor and speculation around as to how the school district will deal with the current financial problems in this economy. If you have children who could be affected by their decisions about class sizes, teacher layoffs and possible school closures, please attend this meeting.

Thrift store schedule

The Walker Thrift Store will move back to their summer hours as soon as the mountain passes open later this month or early next month. The thrift store will be open Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The recycling center will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Get down there and check out the really good values and earn some money from your recycling.

This and that

In spite of the dicey weather on Easter weekend, the Lions Club's pasture golf tournament on Saturday and Easter egg hunt on Sunday were very well attended and enjoyed by all who participated. As always, our thanks to the Lions.
