Learn from history

EDITOR:

I understand that a Walmart would do harm to our local interests like Raley's and other stores except the eating places and casinos.

There are other things we should take into consideration. First the construction would put people to work and they are spending it hopefully in Douglas County. After it has been built, our property taxes and other taxes will also help Douglas County.

The hiring of new people could be an increase in rental or new or existing homes and also this money is helpful in Douglas County. America, I thought, became famous and wealthy by competition.

I remember that when Walmart became a possibility at their present location, people were upset because it was not built in Minden or Gardnerville, and it became clear after one or two years of operation it helped Douglas County because people of Carson City say "Welcome."

So, we can learn from the past and use our best judgment.
