Doris Day Sapp

A memorial service is Oct. 24 in the Gail Day Chapel at the University of Puget Sound, in Tacoma, Wash., for Gardnerville resident Doris Day Sapp, 90, who died Sept. 24, 2009, at her home.

Born in Joplin, Mont. on Oct. 9, 1918, to E. Vern Day and Grace Day, she grew up in Tacoma, Wash. She graduated with a degree in economics from the University of Puget Sound in 1941.

In 1945, Doris married Allan N. Sapp and moved to San Francisco. After a subsequent move to the San Fernando Valley, the family relocated to San Diego in 1956 and lived there for more than 50 years.

Mrs. Sapp was a founding member of P.E.O. Chapter PT and an active member of the community. She and her husband traveled extensively in retirement and enjoyed dining out frequently in both San Diego and the Carson Valley.

She is survived by her husband Allan, their son, Allan D. Sapp, and his wife P.J. Sapp, both of Gardnerville, and two grandchildren, Holden and Hillary Sapp.

The family suggests donations be made in Mrs. Sapp's name to either the University of Puget Sound, the Barton Foundation (hospice) or Cottey College.
