Big freeze following front

A strong cold front is expected to send temperatures plunging below freezing tonight.

According to the National Weather Service, the low temperature in Minden is expected to drop to 26 degrees tonight after reaching a high temperature of 54 degrees today.

Overnight temperatures are expected to remain below freezing until Friday night.

High winds through Carson Valley on Tuesday knocked down tree branches and sent debris blowing across Highway 395.

A high wind speed of 60 mph was recorded at Meneley Elementary School.

Utility lines were knocked down in Minden, Genoa and Topaz Ranch Estates.

An electrical service line to a streetlight was knocked down behind the Douglas County Administrative Building in Minden.

A resident reported a line was 3 feet off the ground at Granite Way in Topaz Ranch Estates. Firefighters also responded to a report of a line down in the 300 block of Genoa Lane.

According to the forecast, there isn't much moisture associated with this front, but another front coming through over the weekend could bring an increased chance of moisture.

Cooler temperatures will also return on Monday with highs 15 degrees below average.
