Today marks the eighth anniversary of Sept. 11, Patriot Day. Carson Valley's oldest tradition is the Sierra Nevada Republican Women's annual dinner is 5 p.m. today at Genoa Lakes. Or you could join Joshua Rodgers' family members as they walk Carson Street. They meet at the Carl's Jr. restaurant parking lot on South Carson Street 5:30 p.m. on Fridays. The walk is two miles and takes about an hour. Wear your red shirt.

This will be a busy weekend for Carson Valley with both the Carson Valley Street Fair and the Green Living Festival going on along with a half-dozen other events. It looks like it will be a good weekend to get out and have some fun, maybe even learn something. Check the calendar for more info.

Today will be sunny and warm, but there's a change in the weather coming starting Saturday. Expect today's high to be 95 degrees in Minden, but that will be the peak for a while. The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures will drop into the high 70s by Monday, with a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms.
