The R-C Morning Report

There's a ton of stuff going on this weekend from craft shows to ghost walks to a luau.

Tonight the Douglas County Historical Society is hosting a ghost walk through Gardnerville at $5 a pop. They'll be keeping that up through the weekend. The Coalition for a Boys & Girls Club in Carson Valley will be hosting a World Series Party at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Saturday night the Elks will be roasting a pig for a luau at their lodge in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Gardnerville's Heritage Park, located on Gilman behind the Overland, will be the site of a 50s car show. Also on Saturday, a tour of the Genoa Cemetery will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. On Sunday, we rest ... after having pancakes and omelets with the Elks and then walking it off at Genoa's Ghost Walk 10:30-11:30 a.m.

The weather will remain nice through the weekend and it appears through next week as well. The high today is expected to hit 72 and then the temperatures will dip through the weekend into the 60s and then climb back up next week. There'll be a few clouds and a light breeze, but otherwise it will be beautiful.

The Wal-Mart on Washoe Tribal land rumor surfaced again on Tuesday. Two different people said they'd heard that it's on. So we did what we usually do in these circumstances, called Wal-Mart and the Tribe. So far, we haven't heard back.

The last time this happened, we ran a story saying that both entities refuted the rumor and people got very mad. But that both Wal-Mart and the tribe said there was nothing in the pipeline doesn't mean that the big discount chain store isn't coming, just that their not willing to tell us about it, yet. Do we believe Wal-Mart is coming to Carson Valley? Sure, why not. The real question is, is there someone willing to step forward and say on the record that Wal-Mart is coming? So far we haven't had any luck finding that person.
