John Robert Loeffler

Longtime South Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley resident John Robert Loeffler died Aug. 19, 2009.

Born in 1928 in Oakland, Calif., he graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and then married classmate Norma Jean Bradley.

The couple moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1957 with their three sons. Mr. Loeffler and a partner opened Tahoe Valley Pharmacy.

For the next 25 years, he raised his family and took advantage of his surroundings.

He was an avid outdoorsman and encouraged his family and friends to join him. He was a volunteer firefighter at Lake Tahoe and later, after moving to Carson Valley, volunteered with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Norma, and son, Mark.

He is survived by sons Brad and Grant; and his older brother Hank.
