Teen dance today

Douglas County Parks & Recreation hosts a teen dance for sixth- through eight-graders, 6:30-9 p.m. today, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Building. Cost of $10 includes a slice of pizza and a drink. Snacks available for purchase. DJ music with Bill McClain's Mobile Music. Students' transportation must be arranged so they are not dropped off before 6:30 p.m. and must be picked up at 9 p.m. Middle school students must bring student ID. Bluegrass concert tonight

The Carson Valley Arts Council's fourth annual concert series opens with the Bearfoot bluegrass band, 7 p.m. today, at the CVIC Hall, 1602 Esmeralda Ave., Minden. Doors open at 6 p.m. for no-host bar and hors d'oeuvres. Tickets are $20 or $17 for CVAC members, sold at the door. Information on season tickets, sponsorships, 781-0150.


Low-cost vaccination clinic

A pet microchip and low-cost vaccination clinic sponsored by Douglas Animal Welfare Group is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Max's Pet Supplies, 1363 Highway 395, Unit 4, next to Raley's in Gardnerville. Dogs must be on leash and cats should be in carriers. Microchip implants performed by Dr. Linda Miner for $30 each, which includes registration. Vaccinations administered by Dr. Lesli Hewit of Quail Ridge Veterinary Hospital.

Implanting a rice-sized microchip beneath the skin in the neck area is virtually painless. A lost pet taken to an animal shelter and many veterinarians could be reunited with owners if a microchip is detected. Miracle benefit Saturday

The Miracles Happen for Becca benefit for Becca Martin and her family is 5-8 p.m. Saturday at High Sierra Fellowship, 1426 Industrial Way, Gardnerville. Pasta dinner, live music, auctions, performance painting by Ben Hubbard, puppet show. Dinner tickets are $10 adult, $25 family. Silver Strike Lanes, 1281 Kimmerling Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos, hosts a benefit event, 6:30 p.m. Saturday, for Carson Valley resident Robert Weisinger who was recently diagnosed with esophageal and liver cancer. Music by Lavish Green. Raffle donations from Carson Valley Inn, Genoa Lakes Golf Course, Cultural Shock, Marcello's, and other local restaurants and businesses. No cover.
