Tennis: First round complete at Northern 4A Regionals

Players from Douglas High had a strong first day at the Northern 4A Regional Championships at the Caughlin Club in Reno.


Two-time defending regional champion Amelia Ritger breezed through her first-round set, winning 6-0, 6-0 over North Valleys' Amanda Sweiden.


Senior Cesarina Ceglia advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 win over North Tahoe's Jamie Gross while freshman Kari TenBroeck won her first career postseason match 6-3, 6-1 over Truckee's Cami Straw.


In doubles, the teams of Emily and Sarah Weaver and Jamie Lundergreen each advanced to the second round, where they both will see doubles pairs from Reno.


Susie White and Kim Lowe saw their season come to an end in the first round, losing 6-0, 6-0.


On the boys' side, top-seeded James TenBroeck advanced easily with a 6-0, 6-0 first-round win.


Earlier in the day, during the tournament's play-in round, singles player Garon Athanacio retired in his match and the doubles team of Matt Thomas and Matt Williams lost 6-2, 6-2 to a pair from Fallon.
