Tennis: Ritger, Ceglia, TenBroeck advance on first day of regionals

Douglas' top seeds at the Northern 4A Regional Tennis Tournament advanced with little trouble to the second round on Thursday at Carson High School while Cesarina Ceglia, snubbed for a seed during the coaches' meeting this week, picked up an upset win to advance.

No. 1 seed and defending regional champion Amelia Ritger breezed through her first-round matchup 6-0, 6-0 and James TenBroeck, seeded second in the boys' bracket advanced with a 6-0, 6-1 win.

Ceglia, taking on the No. 6 seed out of the High Desert League, won her match 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 to advance.

Douglas' Andrew Solomon, who caught the bad break of drawing defending regional champ Jeff Mullen of Reno in the first round, lost 6-0, 6-0.

Play continues Friday and concludes Saturday in the tournament.
