Wounded Warriors fundraiser Oct. 21

Mountainview Barbecue will host a fun time for the whole family Oct. 21 in honor of Michele Hinds, the Rib Gal. Starting at 4 p.m., there will be a barbecue buffet featuring great food, and a bounce house for the kids and live music for all. All proceeds go to the Wounded Warriors Project, which assists families of men wounded in military action. Try to come and support this fundraiser, and enjoying the good food and company.

Coleville High School update

Homecoming was rescheduled for this week, and the football game will be Saturday, 1 p.m., against Mineral County.

Speaking of Wolves football, they have won their last two games by a combined score of 146-0. Their point total versus their opponents in seven games so far is 538-40. That is totally awesome. The team is to be especially congratulated for last Saturday's 66-0 win over Pyramid, as they got the win without either Jason Peters or Emmi Sandoval playing.

Congrats are definitely due to Jason Peters for the Nevada state records he will hold in football. He has been getting a lot of good press lately, and it has been very well-deserved.

Fire station dedication

There will be an open house, 4-10 p.m. Oct. 31, for dedication of our new fire station at 1166 Larson Lane. There will be a chili cookoff between area fire stations, live music, a haunted house for the kids, door prizes, and they will collect canned goods to help residents when needed. Formal events are 4-5:30 p.m., with the "fun" events from 5:30-10 p.m. The new station is really something, and you should definitely check it out.

A bad Sunday

As I am sure you have now heard, Oct. 4 was a bad day for many residents on Meadow Drive in Walker. The power outage that occurred was devastating for them, with most of their household appliances and computers, etc., having burnt wiring and being destroyed. Our hearts are with all of them. Keep your chins up and stay tough, folks.
