Antelope Valley Women's Club bazaar

Local Antelope Valley Women's Club members will hold their annual fundraiser on Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Walker Community Center. The bazaar will open at noon and include craft booths, as well as their traditional dinner served from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tickets for the quilt raffle are now available from club members. The quilt is made of lovely blue fabrics that will complement most decorating themes. Door prizes, white elephant gifts, along with the many crafters' booths, will provide plenty to peruse. Proceeds from Marilyn Summers' silent auction of ranch memorabilia will all go to the Coleville High School Scholarship Fund. Please mark your calendars and plan on attending this event, which supports two scholarship funds for our local graduating seniors.

New Senior Center site coordinator

Effective Oct. 19, Claudia Bonnet will be the new site coordinator at the Walker Senior Center. Any ideas for the growth and success of participation at the center will be appreciated by Claudia, I'm sure.

Burning season

This year's burning season will start Nov. 1, weather permitting. Call the Antelope Valley Fire Department at 495-2900 for information and the required permit.

Festival did well

Saturday seemed a little slow, but Sunday was a very busy day, especially with people wanting raffle tickets for the good prizes and purchasing rubber ducks for the race. The duck race was won by Bob Pawfulcyk of Douglas County. Last place went to John Houston of the San Joaquin Valley. Raffle prizes were really sought after. The gorgeous western-themed mirror made by local resident Mike Elliott was won by Neoma Hoffmann. It is gorgeous. The huge stainless steel barbecue was won by a gentleman from Twain Harte. All in all, it seemed to be very successful and a lot of fun.

This and that

Just an early notice to you that the Coleville High School Boosters Club will hold a western-style barbecue with ribs, chicken and other goodies on Nov. 17. There will also be an auction, so plan ahead. If you have any questions or would like to make a donation of anything, call (760) 932-7101 or (530) 495-2134. They will appreciate any donations offered. This is all to help the students at Coleville High School.

The football and volleyball teams just keep on truckin'. They both won over Eureka last weekend. The regionals are coming for both of them.
