Douglas School Board members are meeting 3:30 p.m. today at the Zephyr Cove branch of the Douglas County Public Library. In an effort to reduce their paper use, board members are training on the use of electronic files for their agendas and back-up material.

Down in Minden, planning commissioners are holding their regular meeting 1 p.m. today in the Douglas County Administrative Building, 1616 Eighth St. On their agenda is a request to establish a planned development at 1331 Stodick Parkway that would allow 72 residential lots on 8.49 acres. 34 of the lots would be duplexes and 38 would be single-family homes.

A woman who allegedly took nearly $5,000 in checks, cash and bank deposits from Allstate Insurance last October is scheduled to appear in Douglas County District Court this morning to for sentencing in felony attempted theft. Sylvia Simmons, 36, was arrested at the end of July after the theft was discovered. Also before District Judge Dave Gamble this morning is self-described heroin addict Andrew DeWitt, 21, who is expected to be sentenced to drug court.
