Tennis: Douglas advances to regional semifinals

Despite several key members of the team battling various illnesses, the Douglas High girls' tennis team cruised to a victory in the opening round of the Northern 4A Regional team tennis championships in Minden Tuesday afternoon.

Douglas' dominating singles trio of Amelia Ritger, Cesarina Ceglia and Kari TenBroeck went a perfect 9-0 on the day, with Ritger blowing through her sets without losing a game, despite playing with a case of bronchitis.

Three of Truckee's four points came from its No. 1 doubles tandem but the Douglas duos of Sarah and Emily Weaver and Jamie Lundergreen and Lindsey Glass each went 2-1 on the day.

The teams of Katie Sawicki and Susie White also picked up a win on the day.

Douglas will next host either McQueen or South Tahoe in the regional semifinals Thursday at 3 p.m. in Minden.
