Feeling betrayed

EDITOR:

This is an open letter to politicians, past, present and future. First of all I would like to say that I know there are a lot of hard working representatives in our government. If you are one of these, this letter is not for you. For the rest of you, why are you even there and what have you been doing the last 30 years or plan to do in the next?

My husband and I have both worked since we were 15 years old. We have paid our taxes, paid our insurance, paid our social security and whatever else was required of us. We have been good law abiding citizens and raised our children to be good Americans. My husband served in the military. We got an education and fit time in our busy schedules to study the issues and voted responsibly. We now find out that no matter which party is in office we are not being served. When the Republicans are in control you let giant corporations rip us off. When the Democrats are in control you promise to fix everything by taxing us to death. You pass laws all day long that you say will protect us but no one is enforcing them. You have not used our hard earned tax money entrusted to you in our best interest.

When we tried to invest for our retirement you let Wall Street rip us off. When we need social security you did not invest our funds wisely and say it won't be there for us. When we need health care you say it will not be there because you haven't cared to fix it for the past 30 years. Why is your failure to plan ahead become an emergency on our part?

I hate to think of what will happen to our young people who are dying all over the world to protect our way of life when they get to their retirement age. What will you tell them? How long do you plan on passing the buck? We don't want excuses; we want you to do your jobs. Is that asking too much?
