Western Nevada offering space scholarships

Western Nevada College is offering two $1,250 scholarships to students with an interest in the space program, for the spring 2010 semester. Students have until Dec. 14, to apply for the NASA/WNC Space Grant scholarship.

To be eligible, students must be attending Western full-time in a degree program related to science and technology, must have a GPA of 3.0 (B) or better, be 18 years or older, and a U.S. citizen.

Under-represented minorities (specifically Hawaiians, Filipinos, other Pacific Islanders, Native Americans, African Americans and Hispanics) who have an interest in space-related fields are particularly encouraged to apply.

The goal of the scholarship is to broaden the pool of qualified applicants for the future workforce.

Applicants cannot receive other federal funds, including funds from other federal scholarships, traineeships or federally funded employment during spring semester.
