H1N1 clinics in Coleville on Nov. 20

The Mono County Health Department will be at Coleville's elementary school, high school and Head Start on Nov. 20 to do an H1N1 clinic for the students. They also plan to have a clinic at the Walker Senior Center from 1-3 p.m., vaccination supply permitting. The CDC is targeting high-risk groups of adults under 24 years of age and those over 24 with major medical issues, such as emphysema, asthma and compromised immune systems. Women's club bazaar

The Antelope Valley Women's Club thanks everyone who helped make the 42nd annual bazaar a big success. It started at high noon on Sunday at the Walker Community Center with many vendors selling their wares, and many neighbors and friends in attendance. There was some holiday shopping and visiting with friends before settling down to a lovely roast beef or turkey dinner around 5 p.m.

The big raffle prize was a beautiful quilt made by Ann Brumley, with many other door and raffle prizes, a white elephant sale and silent auction of antiques, all of which were a big success.

They are very proud to announce that proceeds go toward their two $1,000 scholarships for two deserving students from Coleville High School. Their club has existed for 75 years and dedicates itself to the scholarship assistance for our local students.

Marine Corps birthday

My Marine husband, Mike, and I have enjoyed the last several days of celebrating the 234th birthday of the U.S. Marine Cops on Nov. 10. Last Friday, we went to a great ceremony at the Mountain Warfare Training Center, followed by a fantastic luncheon of lobster, shrimp and steak. Then, this Tuesday, a birthday luncheon was held at the Walker Senior Center, with some active Marines and many others in attendance. It has all been so much fun, and we can only Semper Fi to all.

Coleville sports

Last Saturday, the Coleville High girls' volleyball team won their first round of the playoffs, beating McDermitt.

On the same day, the football team handily won their first league playoff game against Carlin by a score of 72-16.

Let's all root for both teams to keep on winning and bring home championships.

Scholarship information

The Antelope Valley Lions Club has three scholarships available to students from Coleville High School or Eastern Sierra Academy. There are two for $2,000 each for seniors graduating in 2010, and an on-going scholarship for local students entering their third year of college.
