Woman must serve 90 days in theft

A 30-year-old Gardnerville woman must serve 90 days in Douglas County Jail as part of her three-year suspended prison sentence for theft.

District Judge Michael Gibbons sentenced Stacia Body to three years in prison, with a one-year minimum before she is eligible for parole.

He ordered her to report to jail June 1 after she has a hearing in California on a companion case.

Boddy admitted she took jewelry from houses in California she was hired to clean and pawned the items in Nevada.

In an agreement worked out with California and Nevada officials, Boddy is to serve 90 days in Douglas County Jail concurrent to 60 days in California.

She admitted taking the jewelry from homes where she worked for Merry Maids. Boddy said she planned to pawn the jewelry for money to pay bills.

The jewelry was recovered and returned to the owners, but the pawnshop reportedly is out $755. Merry Maids also claimed to be out $529 in lost business and expenses to change locks at clients' homes.

"I am truly sorry," Boddy said. "I just want to get on with my life. I did something really stupid. If any victims were here, I would love to be able to apologize to them face-to-face. I am really sorry."

Gibbons ordered her to perform 40 hours community service and send apologies to the victims within 10 days.

She is to pay $1,249 restitution at $100 a month.

Boddy is forbidden to use alcohol or drugs unless prescribed during probation.
