House cleaner admits theft

A 30-year-old Gardnerville woman pleaded guilty Monday to theft, admitting she took jewelry from houses in California she was hired to clean and pawned the items in Nevada.

Stacia Boddy faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine at her sentencing May 4.

In an agreement worked out with California and Nevada officials, Boddy is to serve 90 days in Douglas County Jail concurrent to 60 days in California.

She admitted taking the jewelry from homes where she worked for Merry Maids. Boddy said she planned to pawn the jewelry for money to pay bills.

"I was getting garnished at work. It's just me and my 5-year-old son," Boddy said.

The jewelry was recovered and returned to the owners, but the pawnshop reportedly is out $755.

"Think you might want to apologize to the property owners?" Gibbons said.
