The new lending library is in two rooms upstairs from the Genoa Country Store and overlooks Main Street in Genoa. There are about 1,000 donated books, current magazines and a game table to play Scrabble. To borrow materials, residents write down what's checked out and when it's returned.

"We noticed we have so many book clubs in Genoa, why don't we have a library? So we opened one in January and it's staffed by volunteers," said organizer Linda Birdwell, who is also secretary and treasurer of the Greater Genoa Business Association.

"Providing a library will increase traffic in the Country Store and support Genoa businesses and increase the flow through town."

Kathleen Contento and Doug Lubushkin, owners of the Genoa Country Store at 2299 Main St., donated two upstairs rooms for a lending library.

Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The lending library is also open when the Genoa Country Store has a Wednesday night dinner every other week.

"On the last Friday of the month, we get a glass of beer or wine at the Country Store during their happy hour and have an informal happy hour book club at 4:30 p.m.," said Birdwell.
