DMV closure politics as usual

EDITOR:

I was very sorry to see that our branch of the DMV has been closed. I recently had business to conduct and was very pleased at the experience.

The office was clean and orderly. The line was very short. The staff was friendly, courteous, helpful and most importantly spoke a very understandable version of English.

I saw an initial report that the closing would save the state about $22,000. Wow, what a savings for a Legislature that avoided saving $20 million plus by not closing the state prison in Carson City. Of course that was opposed by the union (Democrats) and Gardnerville and Minden are largely populated by conservatives (Republican). Given the politics of the Legislature, it is no surprise that they could justify this action, as ludicrous as is seems. I notice that all current discussions of savings include the closings in Sparks and Reno. I am sure that this combining is done intentionally to minimize the potential questions regarding this move, if the nominal savings was really discussed.
