Raymond Melvin Schulz

A memorial service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley for native Nevadan Raymond Melvin Schulz, 84, who died June 8, 2009, in the Carson City home he built, while surrounded by his family and wife of 62 years.

Born Feb. 14, 1925, to John Robert and Helen Marie Schulz in their home on Division Street, he was the youngest of five children, with extensive family roots in Carson City.

In 1946, he married Irene Elizabeth Schlapkohl, moved up the street, and started his own family.

Mr. Schulz was a concrete man who was known throughout Western Nevada. He started his own business where he worked for more than 50 years. During his career, he met and made many friends in the community. He enjoyed working outdoors, and especially tending cattle on the family ranch. He also enjoyed hunting deer and water fowl.  

Mr. Schulz was preceded in death by his sisters Josephine, Alice, and brother Robert

He is survived by his wife Irene; children Julie, John, Jeff, and Tammi Schulz; grandchildren Telsche Saunders, Rhiannon and Shilo Richards, and Jessica Schulz; great-grandchild Britney Richards; eldest sister Helen Gifford and numerous extended family members.

A reception will follow the service where family members will share their memories and stories.
