Mary Marcelline Clifton


1930-2007


A public memorial Mass took place Sunday at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville for Mary Marcelline Clifton, 77, who died Oct. 24, 2007.


Mrs. Clifton, born Feb. 1, 1930, in Atchison, Kan., to Albert and Honora Slattery. At a young age, she and her family moved to Salinas, Calif., where she received her education. She was a sister, wife, mother, and grandmother; someone who never knew a stranger, and was truly defined by those she knew. With open arms, Mrs. Clifton welcomed even minor acquaintances into her life. She had a wonderful sense of humor and could strike up a conversation with anybody she met.


Mrs. Clifton was preceded in death by her sister Bernadette. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, George Clifton, daughters Barbara and her husband Nick, Janet and her husband Michael, Sally, sons Michael and John and his wife Nicole, grandchildren Brandon, Darren, Jaclyn, Tyler, Haley, Austin, Mitchell, Sean, Nathan, Luke and Bailey; brother-in-law Jack and his wife Marilyn, her sisters Rita and Maureen as well as numerous nieces and nephews.


Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Douglas County Mortuary in Minden. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the American Cancer Society. A private service was held on Monday.




Maurice C. Crawford


1933-2007


A memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Memorial Hall in Bridgeport for Maurice C. Crawford, 74, who died Oct. 21, 2007, in Reno.


Mr. Crawford was born May 11, 1933, in Stewart to Irene Dick Fredricks and Clarence Crawford of Dearborn, Mich. He was a Native American veteran who served in the Korean conflict.


He was a member of the First Cavalry Division, Artillery, 1950-56. During his time in service he was also a pitcher for the U.S. Army Fastpitch Softball Team that toured throughout the Far East Command.


He received numerous medals during his tour of duty including Army Occupational Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant in 1956. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service, Toiyabe National Forest, Bridgeport Ranger District. He retired with over 30 years of service.


He is preceded in death by his mother Irene Dick Fredericks, stepfather Thomas Fredericks Sr. of Smith Valley; his father Clarence Crawford of Dearborn, Mich.; brothers Thomas Fredricks Jr. and Walt Crawford and sister Roberta Nesser and granddaughter Jillian Crawford.


He is survived by his wife Edith I. Crawford of Bridgeport, sons David, Kenneth, Thomas, and John; daughters Debra, and Sarrie; sister Darlene Fredricks of Stewart and sister Corinne Smith of Dearborn, Mich.; brothers Don, Tom, Estil Crawford; grandchildren Nicole, Cedar, Tammy, Kelly, Kaitlin, Steven, James, Brandon, Ty and Lauryn, great-grandchildren Mason, Kaya, Chase, Madison, Tommy and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.


Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City. A viewing for the family and friends will take place 5-8 p.m. today at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City. Daniel Charles Johns


1955-2007


No services have been announced for Daniel Charles Johns, 52, who died Oct. 25, 2007 at his home in Smith Valley.


Mr. Johns was born June 22, 1955, in Grosse Point, Mich., to Charles Robert and Helen Marie Johns. He graduated from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho with a degree in beef production management. He worked as a thoroughbred horse breeder and cowboy. A previous resident of La Mesa, Calif., he has been a resident of Minden and Smith for 20 years. His favorite hobby was horse racing.


He was preceded in death by his father Charles Robert Johns on Nov. 13, 2004, in Menefee, Calif. He is survived by his mother Helen Marie Johns, his sister and brother-in-law Katherine and Michael Gervais; his niece Andrea Gervais and great nephew Thomas.


Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home. Cremation will take place at FitzHenry's Crematory in Carson City. Memorial donations can be made to Barton Hospice of the Valley and Lake.
