Meth user sent to drug court

A 22-year-old woman who said she had been using methamphetamine since she was 12, was ordered to complete Western Regional Drug Court in lieu of four years in prison for fraudulent use of a credit card.

District Judge Dave Gamble told Amanda Marie Conti on June 2 if she successfully completes drug court, the felony would be removed from her record.

She admitted stealing a friend's credit card and ringing up $236.30 in purchases.

Conti said she wanted to kick her drug habit because she has a 3-year-old son who lives with his grandparents.

"I tried to quit before," she said. "I can't do it on my own."

Conti said she completed a residential treatment program when she was 15 and was clean for about six months before she started using again. She told Gamble she was off drugs while she was pregnant.

"I really want to change," she said. "It's really important to me."

Gamble told her drug court was her best chance to get off drugs.

"If you fail, you're telling me drugs are more important than your son," he said.
