James W. 'Bill' Wood

World War II Navy veteran and 19-year resident James W. 'Bill' Wood, 80, died May 27, 2009, in Gardnerville.

Mr. Wood was born Oct. 1, 1928 in Hanford, Calif., to George and Elma Farmer Wood.

He married Loirraine Quimby on June 25, 1977, in Reno.

He lived in Martines, Calif., for 30 years before moving to Gardnerville.

He was a trucking company driver and supervisor doing road construction.

A member of the FFA and Knights of Columbus in Sacramento, he also was a member of the Lions Club in California and the Elks in Gardnerville.

Mr. Wood loved to travel, read, watch football and NASCAR on television.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine; sons Mike of Alaska and Jim of California; stepsons Shane Campbell of Tennesee and Cory Campbell of California; daughter Sue Gambell in California; step daughter Ty Powell in Georgea; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Douglas County Mortuary in Minden.
