Boulder fire 80 percent contained

Nearly 300 firefighters are cutting a line 80 percent of the way around the Boulder fire, which they expect to complete by 6 p.m. Monday.

Better mapping has reduced the estimated size of the fire located five miles south of Wellington down to 146 acres.

On Sunday the fire was still smoldering with the occasional torching of interior fuels. A heavy helicopter was used for water drops on hot spots and to help reinforce the fire control line.

The fire started 5:04 p.m. Friday in the Wellington Hills across the Walker River's West Fork from Topaz Ranch Estates.
