The R-C Morning Report

Sentencing for a former Topaz Ranch Estates woman who admitted that she aided her then-husband in the sexual abuse and exploitation of their two young daughters is this morning in Douglas County District Court. Stacy Thoman faces up to 26 years in Nevada State Prison after admitting to attempted lewdness with a child under the age of 14 and neglect.

Genoa Town Board members decided to keep the event that gives Candy Dance its name on the same date as the craft fair for now. While they seemed persuaded by arguments for moving the dinner and dance to the first of the month, they voted 4-0 to leave the date alone after learning the dance would be Labor Day weekend. They agreed that having two other events in September was a good idea, however. Board members also voted not to refund about $1,700 in fees paid by two independent crafters.

We appear to have survived Tuesday's red flag warning in good order. No major wildfires were reported and the Weather Service has lifted a fire weather watch for today. It will still be dry with gusty winds, 20 mph, and I'm betting the chance of ignition is around 90 percent. The high today will be a cool 80 degrees and will continue to climb until it hits 90 sometime next week.
