Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department offers classes for children, youth and adults. Classes require preregistration. Information at 1327 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville, 782-9828.

Little Miss Douglas County. Girls up to age 17 show their talents and have a chance to win prizes and the title of Little Miss Douglas County. The pageant is Feb. 21 at the Dance Workshop. Cost is $75.

Parenting from your Heart gives parents an introduction to nonviolent communication to explore and understand the needs behind children's behavior. Class is Feb. 21 and 28 at the recreation annex building. Cost is $20.

Ballet for age 3 and older teaches students concentration, imagination, coordination, self-disciples and self-confidence. Class schedule and cost varies for each age. Classes are held at World Gym. Call the recreation department for class times and cost.

Dog obedience helps establish good conduct and curb bad habits, 7-8 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 18 to April 8, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Building. Cost is $80.

Winter Scrapbooking Olympics is 12 hours of scrapbooking, hourly prizes and games. Bring photos along with albums, adhesives, papers and pens. Class is 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Feb. 21 at Gardnerville Elementary School. Cost, $30.

Ballroom dance. Learn and practice the fundamentals of the fox trot, swing, waltz and Latin dances. Classes are 7-8 p.m. Fridays, Feb. 6 to March 6, for adults at the Dance Workshop, 1697 County Road in Minden. Cost is $75 per couple.

Concealed weapon certification. This course exceeds Nevada state concealed weapon requirements. Class is 6-9:30 p.m. Feb. 18 and Feb. 20 at the recreation annex building and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Douglas County Shooting Range. Cost, $90 plus $10 insurance fee.
