Kudos Carson Valley Community Food Closet helps families in need

The Carson Valley Community Food Closet continues to serve those individuals and families in need by providing supplemental groceries to qualified recipients. The year started out with high demands for assistance due to economic conditions. Thanks to community support of individuals, businesses and service organizations these needs are being met. At times the shelves well stocked and at times they less full. We wish to thank all who have contributed with donations, money, or their time.

January donations received (in pounds): Soroptomists (22), Douglas County Public Library (154), Gene T. Clark (120), Doug and Cindy Petersen (1,484), Pau-Wa-Lu seventh grade leadership (265), Kremer Family light show (71), St. Gall Catholic Church (450), Unity Church (65), Michael Smith (28), Coldwell Banker - Itildo (92), Hickory Farms (185), Kingsbury Post Office (35), Gold Dust West Casino (35), Northwest Martial Arts (25), Rich's Highway Club (72), pet food (115), St. Gall Knights of Columbus (410), and Calvary Chapel Episcopal Church (121).

Regular grocery contributors: Raley's, Smith's, Scolari's, Starbucks/Minden, Starbucks/Gardnerville, Costco, Trader Joe's, Shell Country Store, Vanity Bakery, Russell's Mercantile and a Secret Santa.

These December donations were omitted from the last report (in pounds): Christ Presbyterian Church (40) and Harrah's and Harveys casinos - turkeys (1,400). Our apologies for the omission.

The food closet is currently in need of canned fruit, fruit cocktail, jam, chili, canned meats, stew, ravioli, tuna, and spaghetti sauce. To drop off nonperishable food donations or to make a donation visit the food closet Monday through Wednesday and Friday from 1-4 p.m. at 1255 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.
