Journey to the Cross service March 4

Staff Reports

Momentum Award and Unity Award nominee Mel Kennedy leads the Journey to the Cross community prayer service, 6 p.m. March 4, at St. Gall Catholic Church. The free event combines biblical and traditional stories that recreate the journey of Christ to the cross, inspirational songs for prayerful interaction and contemplative meditations and slides to move history from more than 2,000 years ago to the present.

"Meditating on the events of Jesus's final days can be profound. The challenge for most of us is shutting out the noise and distractions of everyday life long enough to quiet our souls and listen to the Spirit of God," said Kennedy.

In addition to live appearances, Kennedy's CD music includes "Hope-N-Light," "The Journey," "Open My Eyes," "Bienaventurados Blessed" and "Night of Silence."

The one-hour Stations of the Cross service is presented by Nicole Melsheimer and Barbara Shields of MNM Music Ministry. A soup supper will follow the service. Bring a dish to share.

St. Gall Catholic Church is at 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. Information, 782-2852.
