Teen driver knocks out power pole

A 16-year-old driver who claimed he swerved to avoid hitting a dog knocked over a power pole at Johnson and Vicky lanes Thursday afternoon, cutting power to 50-60 homes and creating a road closure.

The accident occurred at 2:58 p.m., and Johnson Lane was closed for two hours while NVEnergy Co. employees worked to remove downed power lines from the intersection.

Officials expected Vicky Lane between Johnson Lane and Judy Street to be closed overnight.

Motorists were detoured through the Wildhorse sibdivision.

NV Energy Faye Andersen said power company workers have isolated the pole, but that 50-60 homes will be without power until the problem is fixed.

She said that the work is complicated by the number of circuits carried by the pole.

Johnson and Vicky lanes are closed where a vehicle knocked down a power pole at 3 p.m. today.

Power lines are lying across the road. Traffic is being diverted at Clapham Lane to Stephanie Way.

There is no report of injury in the accident. Power company workers are on scene.

Reports are that the work will take some time.
