Gourd art at East Fork Gallery

Artist Norma Holland gives a demonstration on creating gourd art, 1-3 p.m. Saturday at East Fork Gallery, 1503 Highway 395, Gardnerville, 782-7629. Holland has been an artist-participant in fundraisers for the Nevada Indian Commission and a featured artist in the 58th Annual Governor's Interstate Indian Council Conference at Lake Tahoe. Valentine's Day dinner dance

Carson Valley United Methodist Church hosts a Valentine's Day dinner dance to benefit the church's youth group, 5-9 p.m. Saturday.

The event includes DJ music, entertainment by a bell choir, sweetheart games and a dinner of chicken Parmesan with pasta, dinner roll, asparagus and beverage.

The Barefoot Belles handbell ensemble will play Beethoven's "Eccossaise" and "Moonlight Sonata," Pachelbel's "Canon," and the songs "Gift of Love," "Bind Us Together" and "Someday My Prince Will Come."

The Barefoot Belles are Rachel Anderson, Sarah Bigelow, Cheryl Eckert, Linda Miner, Bethany Surber. They are affiliated with the Sierra Ringers from Carson Valley United Methodist Church.

Cost, $10 per couple. Child care available for $3 per child includes pizza. Tickets available at the church office or at the door. The church is at 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. Information, 782-4600.


Elks crab feed

The Minden/Douglas Elks annual Crab Feed is Feb. 20 at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Social hour starts 5:30 p.m. Dinner at 6:30 p.m. On the menu is fresh Dungeness crab, garlic bread and cole slaw. Shrimp cocktails will be for sale in the bar area. Steaks available by advanced notice only for those who don't want crab. Cost, $35 per person.

Carson Valley Inn entertainment

Jo Mama continues in the Carson Valley Inn's Cabaret Lounge through Sunday, Naked City plays Feb. 16-22 and Mack & Tom perform Feb. 23-March 2.

Live entertainment presented with no cover and no minimum with five 45-minute shows starting on the hour at 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday nights and 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights.

Jo Mama is a party and dance band playing a variety of music featuring funky rhythm and blues and light jazz. The band is Paul Covarelli and Rick O'Neil on vocals, veteran drummer Bill Heise and Remmel Wilson on sax and keyboards.

Naked City is Jo and Tony Hoover whose repertoire includes popular music from the '50s to current hits. The Hoovers are vocalists who play bass, guitar, keyboards and percussion.

Mack & Tom play classic rock 'n' roll from the '50s through the '80s plus contemporary tunes. The group is Bruce McCormack on keyboards and vocals and Tom Dickson on guitar and vocals. The two artists have played together for more than 10 years, many of them as part of the backup band for Louie Fontaine and The Rockets.

The Carson Valley Inn features Valentine's Day dining specials in Fiona's Bar & Grill and Katie's Country Kitchen.

Dinner dance for Austin's House

Austin's House presents the Mardi Gras Magic dinner and dance, 6 p.m. Feb. 20, in the Shannon Ballroom at the Carson Valley Inn. The fundraiser recreates the party atmosphere of New Orleans with music, dancing, prizes and food.

Cocktail hour begins 6 p.m. The event features dance music by Fabrizio, raffle drawings and silent auction. A grand prize drawing is for a vacation at Harrah's New Orleans.

The Cajun buffet dinner features peel and eat shrimp, chicken gumbo, blackened fish, Louisiana hot links steamed in beer, shrimp etouffee and smoked rib-eye roast with all the trimmings.

Seussical musical

Carson Valley Arts Council and Wild Horse Children's Theater present "Seussical Jr." at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Feb. 22, at the CVIC Hall in downtown Minden.

"Seussical Jr." is directed by Carol Scott and features characters from the Dr. Seuss books, "The Cat in the Hat," "Horton Hears a Who," "Green Eggs and Ham" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

Bridal fair Feb. 22

A bridal fair to showcase local wedding vendors is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Genoa Lakes Golf Club.
