Rummage sale benefits 4-H

The Great 4-H Fabric and Rummage Sale to benefit the Carson City/Storey County 4-H scholarship fund is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Carson City Fuji Park Exhibit Hall, 601 Old Clear Creek Road.

Tax-deductible donations of fabrics and lightly used household items accepted to be used for the Carson City/Storey County 4-H annual fabric and rummage sale 9-4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at Fuji Park Exhibit Hall in Carson City. Knight's cioppino

The 4th Degree Sierra Assembly of the Knights of Columbus' third annual cioppino dinner is Saturday at the St. Gall Pastoral Center. The cioppino dinner includes green salad, French bread, dessert and nonalcoholic beverages. Steak may be substituted for cioppino. Cost is $30 per person. Tickets are available at the door. Wine, chocolate and art affaire

The Wine, Chocolate & Art Affaire is 5:30-8 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Valley Community Hall in Wellington. The event features wine tasting from area wineries, appetizers and chocolate desserts, invitational art show, door prizes and silent auction.

Museum lecture

Joe Curtis presents a pictorial look at Virginia City's past, 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville. The free lecture series is sponsored by the Douglas County Historical Society the second Thursday of the month. The museum and the Main Street Book Store will be open before and following the lecture. Information, 782-2555.


Sign up by Feb. 17 for pageant

Weekly meetings for the Miss Douglas County and Miss Carson City scholarship programs begin 7 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Indian Hills General Improvement District, 3394 James Lee Park Road, Carson City. The last day to become a contestant in the March 28 pageant is Feb. 17.

Women 17-24 are invited to learn about the 2009 Miss Douglas County and Miss Carson City pageant. Candidates should be at least a graduating high school senior, never married or pregnant. Contact directors Sarah Ferris, (775) 721-2928 or Shauna Bartshe, (775) 230-3745.


GED classes

Douglas County School District's ongoing GED and adult diploma preparation classes are 5-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays while school is in session at Douglas High School.
