Public speaking class offered through 4-H

The 4-H program has a history of turning out outstanding public speakers. If your children get the jitters when they have to make presentations at school the Cooperative Extension's free Speaking With Confidence 4-H Program may be just what they need to conquer their fears and learn public speaking skills early in life. The course will be held 4-5 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 25- March 29 at the Douglas County office of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.

The program is designed specifically for ages 9-19 years. Topics include controlling nervousness, interpreting body language, interviewing, and using audio-visual aids. Youth will learn the importance of practicing and setting goals. The class is taught by Douglas County Extension educator Steve Lewis, is an accomplished public speaker who knows how to make the topic fun and lively for youth.

Interested youth do not need to be a current member of a 4-H club or pay fees. For more information or to register, call University of Nevada Cooperative Extension in Douglas County, 782-9960. The 4-H clubs are youth development and leadership programs of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension.
