If your children get the jitters when they have to make presentations at school, Cooperative Extension's free "Speaking With Confidence 4-H Program," may be just what they need to conquer their fears and learn public speaking skills early in life.
It is a nine-week course, 4-5 p.m. every Monday, Jan. 30 through April 3 at the Douglas County office of the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.
The 4-H program has a history of producing outstanding public speakers, and this program is designed specifically for youth ages 8 to 19. It will include a wide variety of topics, such as controlling nervousness, interpreting body language, interviewing, and using audio-visual aids.
Instructor Steve Lewis, Douglas County Extension Educator, is an accomplished public speaker who knows how to make the topic fun and lively for youth.
Interested youth do not need to be a current member of a 4-H club or pay any fees. However, they do need to call to register, since enrollment is limited. For more information or to register, call the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension in Douglas County, 782-9960.
The 4-H clubs are youth development and leadership programs of the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension.
