Tree gives Christmas joy

Every year Debie Bush and her staff at the Walker General Store have the Giving Tree in the store to get gifts for children who need a little Christmas assistance and joy. It is so simple to contribute to this effort - just go to the store, take the card from the tree that has the child's name and their gift wish, buy the gift and return it to the store.

On Christmas Eve, Santa will deliver the gifts to the children. It is such a wonderful and rewarding effort by Debie, her staff, and too many others to mention, all of whom work very hard on this. Please find time to make your gift happen.

Chamber of Commerce dinner

This Saturday, Dec. 12, the Chamber will hold their annual Christmas social for the community at the Walker Community Center. There will be a delicious dinner of ham, with all the extras, starting at 6:30 p.m. The cost will be $12 for adults and $6 for children between 3 and 12 years of age. Wine and beer will begin being served at 5:30 p.m. This is fundraiser for musical instruments for our local school children, so please try to contribute.

Coleville school sports

Coleville High School's boys' and girls' basketball teams participated this weekend in the Antelope Valley Lions Club's annual tournament. It's wonderful to be able to report that both teams won their championships handily. These kids are good ballplayers, so try to get over to the school and see them play soon.

Our weather

As I write this on Sunday afternoon, the wind is blowing hard, and we have been told to expect harsh temperatures and lots of snow over the next few days. I just hope everyone has enough firewood and can hunker in for the duration. It seems like we are having stronger weather, and it is earlier this year. Maybe we can hope it will end earlier, but that would seem too good to be true. Just stay warm and dry.
