Today is the first day of school for Valley secondary schools. Douglas High, Carson Valley Middle, Pau-Wa-Lu Middle schools and Sierra Crest Academy open for the fall semester. Watch out for school zones on highways 395 and 88. I bet the sheriff's office will be watching out for motorists ignoring them.

A Carson City man who admitted to one count of trafficking in methamphetamine faces sentencing this morning in District Court. Fernando Salcedo-Navarro, 41, was arrested in a Carson City raid on May 26. He faces a minimum sentence of 12-30 months and a maximum sentence of 28-72 months.

County commissioners are holding a teambuilding workshop at the Carson Valley Arts Council at 1 p.m. today.

It will be sunny with a high in the mid-80s today. The highs will climb back up into the 90s by Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
